Easter at Jubilee
Holy Week Devotional
Journey through the final week of Jesus' life with daily scriptures, reflections, and family activities. Each day reveals a different aspect of who Jesus is and what He did for us.
Download Full Devotional (PDF)Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. Crowds waved palm branches and shouted, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" The word "Hosanna" means "come save us." Jesus rode in with humility, bringing an eternal salvation.
Make green palm leaves using your own palms! Dip your child's hand in green paint and make handprints on paper in the shape of a palm leaf. Cut them out, glue onto craft sticks, and pretend to be part of the crowd on Palm Sunday!
Jesus drove out those who were profiting in the temple, saying, "My house will be called a house of prayer. But you are making it a den of thieves!" God wants our pure worship and absolute devotion. Whenever we put something above Him, it may have become an idol that Jesus came to clean out.
Fill a glass with clean water (purity), add food coloring (sin). No matter how much water you add, it's contaminated. Pour it out, clean it, refill. Only Jesus can truly forgive and purify us.
The chief priests tried to trick Jesus, but He used His words wisely through parables. He didn't waste words but always spoke to honor God and help those listening. The whole point of the law is for us to love God and love each other.
Squeeze all the toothpaste out of a tube onto a plate. Then try to put it back in. Our words are like toothpaste — once they come out, they're hard to put back. Jesus was careful with His words.
Mary broke an expensive bottle of perfume worth a year's wages and anointed Jesus — the only anointing He received for His burial. Her bold act of worship confronted the culture and even enraged Judas. Mary reminds us that the only person who defines us is Jesus.
Gather essential oils or perfume. Smell the fragrance together and imagine using it on Jesus' feet to show how much you love Him. How can you show your love to Jesus?
Before the Passover meal, Jesus humbled Himself and washed the feet of each disciple — a job for the lowest servant. He did it to be an example for them and for us. Jesus didn't come to be served; He came to serve.
Follow Jesus' example by washing each other's feet. Go barefoot to get dirty first, then take turns with a bowl of water. Think of one way your family can serve someone this week.
At the Last Supper, Jesus revealed a disciple would betray Him. Judas did, Jesus was arrested and crucified. He had the power to save Himself but didn't — this was God's plan. Jesus, who never sinned, took punishment for everyone's sin because He loves us. When He died, the temple curtain was torn in two.
Make a cross from sticks or pipe cleaners. Write something wrong on it. Cover the cross with something red (paint, markers). The red represents Jesus' blood that paid for our sins.
"Silent Saturday" — Jesus' body was placed in a tomb sealed with a massive stone, guarded by Roman soldiers. The disciples were afraid and in hiding. But Jesus had said He would come back to life, and everyone waited, hoping His promise would come to pass.
Make props to retell the story: a craft stick for Jesus, two sticks for the cross, a toilet paper roll tomb sealed with a rock. Let your child retell the Easter story.
The stone was rolled away, the tomb was empty! An angel said Jesus wasn't there because He was ALIVE! Death did not win — Jesus did! He appeared to the disciples and showed His scars. Even Thomas believed. Jesus is alive today! His resurrection is the promise of eternal life!
Make Resurrection Eggs! Fill 12 numbered plastic eggs with story items: leaf, cracker, pennies, string, fabric, toothpick, tack, two sticks, cotton ball, cloves, a pebble, and nothing — because the tomb was empty. He is risen!
